Horizon 2020_ European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020): "NEW WINDOW SYSTEM"

The research and development project proposed by the company, lasting 36 months, aims to create a new window system—a hybrid composite wood construction—composed of an aluminium layer for protection against weathering and ageing, a structural element in new-generation thermoplastic matrix composite material, all decorated internally with a solid wood trim; therefore, a unique system of its kind, far removed from the current state of the art.

Currently, window products on the market can be divided into three macro families, based on the characterizing material: wood, aluminium and PVC.

Wood systems represent the history of fenestration. The first material used for windows in the residential sector was wood; the first window manufacturers were carpentry workshops. These products are characterized by unparalleled aesthetics and flexibility, but remain artisan products, therefore involving significant costs, including maintenance. With the new hybrid composite-wood system, the current fenestration market will be revolutionized, because the company will be able to introduce a unique product that encompasses all the characteristics required of a window system, namely: durability, functionality, aesthetics, low costs and eco-sustainability.

In addition to offering a window system that embodies all the strengths of products currently on the market, the project has the further objective of obtaining a low environmental impact product—that is, using 10% recycled material for the structural composite, material that can be reused.
