1) Are a thermal break and a thermal bridge the same thing?
Absolutely NO, on the contrary, they are two completely different things.
The first is a term that is used in order to indicate the presence of an insulating element placed between two conductive elements that reduce the heat flow. The thermal break is used in aluminium and aluminium-wood systems.
The second is a term that is very often used in the building industry in order to indicate a lack of homogeneity in the structure that causes a more rapid heat flow.
In windows, this is seen especially in double-glazing, where the two or more panes of glass are joined by means of perimetral spacers, that act as a thermal bridge or rather the heat flow that passes through the edges of the glass is greater than that which passes through its centre.

2) What is Uw thermal transmittance?
Thermal transmittance is the capacity of a window to transmit heat, therefore the lesser the Uw, the greater is the thermal insulation that the window guarantees.

3) What is the difference between Uw and Uf?
Uw is the thermal transmittance of the window that depends on its dimensions, type and the elements of which it is made (frame, glass pane and spacer if used with glass with one or more chambers), whilst Uf is the transmittance of the section which varies from system to system (SW40, SW60tt, etc.).

4) What is the difference between wood-aluminium windows and those in aluminium-wood?
Wood-aluminium window are made of a wooden load-bearing structure onto which an aluminium plate is applied, whilst those in aluminium-wood are made of an aluminium load-bearing structure onto which solid wood frames are fixed and which are only for aesthetic purposes.

5) When is it necessary to use multi-layered glass?
Multi-layered glass (or alternatively tempered glass) is necessarily used when:
  • the lower side of the window is placed 1 m from the ground surface;
  • the window wing protrudes outwards;
  • the dimensions of the glass exceed 6 m2;
  • the window is destined for public premises.
Multi-layered glass has the characteristic of internally containing an adhesive film that is generally transparent and which glues two layers of glass together making them particularly resistant to breakage.

6) I have purchased a window with high performances of resistance to air permeability, watertightness and resistance to wind load, however there are draughts, what could this be due to?
There could be two possible causes of draughts:
  • An incorrect installation of the windows that nullifies the efficiency of the window itself;
  • An incorrect adjustment of the hinges that causes an incorrect closure of the window.

7) In order to produce a sliding, retractable SW180s window can I use any type of counterframe?
In order to guarantee an excellent resistance to air permeability, wind load and watertightness together with the correct functioning of the lift & slide SW180s window, the use of the Scrigno Incanto counterframe for external use is expressly recommended.

8) How long would it take for the windows to be delivered?
The windows are delivered in 35÷40 days from the date of the order confirmation, except for particular needs or requirements.

9) What is a counterframe?
The counterframe (or basic window frame) is either a metallic or a wooden element that is used to fix the frame to the brickwork, by defining the recess where the window will be clearly and precisely installed.

10) During the different thermal dilatations of the two materials aluminium and wood, isn’t the latter material damaged?
This does not happen with our products as the wooden and aluminium profiles are assembled by using nylon joints patented by Starpur and which allow the natural dilatation of the two materials, without any limitations whatsoever.

11) What is perimetral hardware?
It is particular hardware that goes around the perimeter of the windows and thanks to this characteristic it has several closure points and therefore it guarantees a greater resistance to air permeability, wind load and watertightness. All Starwood systems are fitted with perimetral hardware.
